The best way to experience Nepal’s exotic combination of natural beauty and cultural diversity is to walk through them. Nepal, the country with a difference, where the rhythm of life is elegantly slow and the way of life is traditional, cultured and unsophisticated. Nature has bestowed Nepal at her best with high mountains, green lush valleys and mighty rivers. So explore Nepal, perhaps the only country of its type in the world with Shiva Treks & Expeditions–the country’s immense contrast in altitudes and climate–an equally spectacular mix of life-styles, vegetation, diversified culture and tradition of various ethnic groups of the country. There is no country in the world more apparent in diversity, more cultured, varied and interesting than Nepal. Trekking in Nepal follows the similar trails that have captured the imaginations of mountaineers and explorers for over 5 decades. Most of the trails follow a range between 500 to 3000 m and pass through the cultivated landscapes and unchanged village settlements, which offers the glimpse of Nepal’s fascinating culture and unchanged customs and traditions. Trekkers will have the privilege to closely observe the remote mountain villages that embrace many ethnic groups. Trekking in Nepal obviously means being accompanied by the picturesque valleys, beautiful terraced landscapes and the majestic snow capped mountain. And always in the background, the icy pinnacles of the Himalaya loom over the scenery.

You don’t need to be a mountaineer with rippling muscles to enjoy trekking. If you posses a spirit of adventure and can walk 5 to 6 hours a day, you meet the criteria to participate in our trekking programs. Nevertheless it is sensible not to bring small children. During trek all you have to do is concentrate on the trail following yourself before the other in the group. We provide you with all the necessary equipment on the trek and all you need is to bring your personal wears and enjoy the wonderful panorama Nepal has to offer. Since there is an acute shortage of facilities during trek, we provide you with camping gears, food and other essential things. All equipment will be carried by our team of porter and our group of expert cook will serve you meals. Our Sardar (Group Leader) and other support staff will look after your complete requirements and your necessities for making your trek more pleasurable and unforgettable.

Trekkers’ Guide:

1. Do I need a trekking permit?
Many trekking areas in Nepal require trekking permit (except for Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang). You can get the permit from the Department of Immigration Office in Kathmandu and Pokhara. For this, you need to have your visa, two passport-size photographs and trekking fee.

2. How should I dress for a trek?
Make sure you put on comfortable clothes for the trek. Bring along warm sweaters, a padded jacket, T-shirts, a couple of pairs of warm wool or jeans pants, woolen and cotton socks; thermal wear would be appropriate for winter. As you would trek for 5-6 hours a day, good shoes are a must. You will require a lightweight pair of boots that have rubber soles, have good ankle support and are sturdy enough. Most of these stuffs are available in Kathmandu. You may also buy sunglasses, sunscreen, a compass and a bug spray for precautions.

3. Do I have to take special measures for my health?
Always carry a first-aid kit; if you are taking any particular medicines, bring them along. Apart from that, you can easily get medicines for minor ailments.

4. Is there any hygiene problem for drinking water?
You can count on the water provided by the hotels/lodges as they are bound to boil and filter it. You can also get bottled mineral water from nearby shops. Avoid tap and stream water.

5. Can I reconfirm my tickets for my return while on a trek?
If you want reconfirmation, our staff will collect your ticket on your arrival and reconfirm it. Your ticket will be returned after the trek. (For guests on full itineraries)

6. What are the sources of communication in Nepal?
A standard telephone system is easily available in cities. Fax, E-mail and Internet facilities are restricted to major cities such as Kathmandu and Pokhara. If you have your own laptop, you can get Internet Start Kit CDs provided by local ISPs or Department stores of the cities. However, do not expect such facilities while on a trek.

7. What will happen in case of an emergency?
If the situation is not so urgent, you will be taken to the nearest health post; however, on serious cases, a helicopter will be summoned and our office staff will take you to the hospital. If necessary, an international medical flight will be arranged. Ensure that your insurance policy covers up for such emergencies.
