Monastery Delight (Thyangboche Trek) Tea House Trek / NPL 15

This trek is to the famous Tengboche Monastery (12,900 ft) in the Everest region of Nepal. The trek is at a relaxed pace allowing more time to savor the culture and the views and also allowing more time to acclimatize to the altitude.

Khumbu home to Mount Everest (8,850m) - better known as Sagarmatha among Nepalis and Chomolongma among Tibetan -speaking communities. Located in the Sagarmatha National Park, many visitors come to this region to glimpse the world's highest peak but come away with much more: an appreciation of the local people who make their home in this high and difficult landscape, a spirit of adventure that brings them back to the Himalayas, and other individual and personal experiences.

As you trek through the villages of the famous Sherpa people, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of snow-capped mountains that rise above the clouds. This trek follows the popular Everest Base Camp trail until Thyangboche. Return to Lukla via Khumjung, one of the largest Sherpa villages and site of the famous Khunde Hospital and the Khumjung school, both legacies of Sir Edmund Hillary.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla and commence trek to Phakding
Fly Kathmandu / Lukla (2800m). The flight will take about 40 min. Start trek to Phakding. The trail after Lukla drops steeply for a bit, then descends gently at Chiplung. The walk is easy and after passing through several villages, we reach Phakding at 2800m.
Day 04: Trek Phakding - Namche Bazaar
From Phakding, the trail continues north up the Dudh Koshi valley, staying 100m above the river. After Benkar (2700m), the trail follows a pleasant route alongside the river and then climbs up to Jorsale. There are excellent views of Mt. Thamserku (6608m) en route. The climb to Namche (3440m) after Jorsale is long and steep with a gain of more than 600m.
Day 05: Acclimatization day
The main aim today is to allow your body to acclimatize, it is important to drink lots of water and take some gentle exercise. Namche is a growing town tucked into a neat little valley, there is lots going on in the centre with market days on Friday and Saturday. There are some interesting museums and shops. There is also internet and a sauna! You could venture further a field, take a visit to Khumjung where the Hillary school sits and Khunde nearby, on the way back to Namche you could visit the Shyangboche airstrip, (3790m) the highest in the world nearby is the Everest View Hotel with stunning views.
Day 06: Trek Namche - Thyangboche Monastery
From Namche the route is reasonably level and direct to Thyangboche that starts at Chhorkung, winds around the hill to the tea and souvenir shops of Kenjoma, and joins the trail from Khumjung just before Sanasa. The trail descends gradually to Tashinga and drops steeply to Phunki Thanga. From here it is a two hour climb to Thyangboche (3876m), where we will spend the overnight.
Day 07:  Trek Thyangboche - Namche Bazaar
From Thyangboche, the route descends to Phunki Thanga, and on to Sanasa from where we will meet the same route that we followed on our walk from Namche to Thyangboche. However, we will take a route westward that will take us to Khunde Hospital and Khumjung village (3790m). From Kumjung, the trail descends directly to Syangboche airport from where Namche is just about 1 hour steep descent. In Namche Bazaar, you will have a last opportunity to buy (mostly) fake Tibetan jewellery from Tibetan merchants who spread their wares alongside the trail through the village.
Day 08: Trek Namche Bazaar Phakding
We have a long descent today. The trail is very good although steep in places, so we make a leisurely pace reaching Phakding.
Day 09: Trek Phakding - Lukla
Our final morning's walk will take around 3 hours as we climb back up to the Lukla ridge. Here we check in for the return flight to Kathmandu. Arriving in Kathmandu around mid-day or early afternoon we check into the hotel. The rest of the day is free for relaxing
